Algorithm Ontologies Lecture Performance mit Gabriele Gramelsberger und Peter Bexte

The lecture aims to clash human behavior with algorithm behavior by focusing on the performance aspect of algorithms. According to Emil Post, an algorithm is a procedure in "a symbol space in which the work leading from problem to answer is to be carried out" (Post 1936). Post provided an abstract rewriting system that would generate output by permutation of the input. Computers do nothing else than rewriting symbols, moving from A to B in loops and iterations. If human beings do the same (moving from A to B in loops and iterations) amazing things happen, as may be seen in AlgoRhythmic dances or in Samuel Beckett’s tv-play square.
